 Free Safe Harbour Orientation

 Building more welcoming communities starts with an understanding of diversity.

The Safe Harbour: Respect for All programs promotes an inclusive British Columbia that builds community support for diversity. Safe Harbour promotes the idea of moving past acceptance to an understanding and celebration of diversity, resulting in safer, and more welcoming communities.

Your business will be a Safe Harbour after completion of the orientation and commitment to:

  • Equitable treatment: Treating all clients and/or customers in an equitable manner. If a concern is expressed regarding a lack of equitable treatment, staff members take this concern seriously.
  • Providing a Safe Harbour: Being a temporary safe place where a community member who has experienced mistreatment will receive a helping hand, such as a place to sit, a telephone to use, and information on how to seek further assistance.
  • Prepared employees: Preparing all employees to welcome and celebrate diversity, and assist those who require refuge from discrimination.

Know a business that is a trust champion?

BBB asks public to nominate ethical businesses for a Torch Award

Better Business Bureau serving Mainland BC encourages consumers to get vocal about good business practice and nominate a trustworthy company for a Torch Award.

The BBB Torch Awards are open to all BC companies (excluding Vancouver Island) who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to ethics and customer service excellence.

BBB also recognizes sustainable initiatives with the Green Award.

All companies who receive public nominations must submit an application, which will be judged by an independent panel of business leaders.
