Transport & Infrastructure Team
Mandate:
- To consider and report on matters of concern in the field of transportation.
- To recommend action for the adoption of Canadian Chamber policy as approved by the Board
- To initiate the preparation of policy reviews, analyses, and reports on transportation policy issues.
- To make submissions to the appropriate Ministers - government representatives, approved by the Board
Area of Focus
Air
- To identify travel corridors from the Vancouver International Airport to the Abbottsford Airport
- Border
- To respond to concerns regarding the NEXUS system for US/Canada border crossings.
- To lobby for increased 24 hour service hours and the required infrastructure for truck and automobile traffic using the Aldergrove border crossing
Rail
- To support the Fraser Valley Heritage Railway and Light/Commuter Rail with the goal of moving people by means other than surface roadways.
Road
- South Fraser Transit Plan and the response of the Surrey Board of Trade.
- Tolling of bridges and traffic demand management for new and existing infrastructure.
- The ongoing issues surrounding the Patullo Bridge, structurally, traffic volume, and user safety.
- The South Fraser Perimeter road and the impact on the communities the road will travel through.
- The Metro Vancouver Sustainable Future plans and how this will impact on the commercial and commuter traffic patterns.
- The need to widen 192nd Street (Hwy 10 to 28th Ave) to service the growing demands into Campbell Heights and the widening of King George Highway from 64th Avenue to the border.
- Overall required improvements to the Transit system across the city.
Water
- To support the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority in its expansion of port facilities
- To suggest that the Transportation Committee endorse the ongoing dredging of the shipping channels west of the Patullo Bridge.
